Attempting to Make Cake Mix Macarons- Sorta!

So yesterday, I decided to attempt to make some french macarons using a recipe that used cake mix. I found the recipe on the American Girl Grace's Sweet Shop app for mobile devices. The instructions were not somewhat clear! By the way, this is NOT a tutorial but more of me telling you my experience attempting to make macarons. My macarons came out quite, well... interesting. Let me show you!

Ingredients and Materials:
- a box of cake mix (any flavor), I used
Pillsbury Funfetti cake mix
- 1/4 cup of shortening, I used Crisco
baking sticks of shortening
- frosting (any kind), I used Betty Crocker
Rich and Creamy Vanilla frosting
- 1 egg (not including those needed for the
cake mix alone)
- a large bowl
- a spoon or automatic mixer

The Ingredients:

After I Mixed all of my Ingredients:

I then used a spoon and put small amounts of the dough/mix onto a cookie sheet:

After I put the mix on to the cookie sheets, I baked them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until the edges were lightly browned:

 Once the cookies were done:

After I filled the cookies with frosting and assembled them in a similar manner to macarons:

I hope you enjoyed! The "macarons" came out very delicious, and a whole box of cake mix made a ton!
